Vicky was nearly beaten by sand mafia and 500 goons during the film shoot.

Vicky Kaushal is currently enjoying the success of his latest film Bad Newz, starring alongside Triptii Dimri and Ammy Virk. During a recent interview with Tanmay Bhat on his YouTube channel, the actor recounted a harrowing experience from his days as an assistant director on Anurag Kashyap’s Gangs of Wasseypur.

In the interview, Vicky shared an alarming incident where he and the crew encountered the dangerous sand mafia while shooting for the film.

“The coal smuggling depicted in the film was real. We were capturing visuals of illegal sand mining when a shocking incident unfolded. It was my first realization of how openly such activities could happen. It didn’t look like smuggling; it seemed like a legitimate business with 500 trucks present,” Vicky recalled.

“We were filming covertly when suddenly a large group of people approached us. There were around 500 individuals surrounding us. Our elderly camera attendant, aged over 50, called the unit to inform them of our predicament. Misinterpreting his call as a threat from someone influential, one of the men slapped the cameraman, seized the camera, and threatened to destroy it. Both of us were in danger of being assaulted. Fortunately, we managed to escape with our lives intact,” Vicky recounted.

Following his stint as an assistant director on Gangs of Wasseypur, Vicky Kaushal made his acting debut in Neeraj Ghaywan’s Masaan. Since then, he has starred in several successful films such as Raazi, Sanju, Uri: The Surgical Strike, Sardar Udham, and Sam Bahadur, among others.
