Venom’s greatest enemy, the creator of all symbiotes Knull, is poised to make his triumphant return in Marvel Comics later this year.
The character made his cinematic debut in 2024’s Venom: The Last Dance, played by Andy Serkis. Marvel announced the news of Knull’s return as part of its 616 Day celebrations, with a landmark 250th issue of Venom set to hit stands in October. Al Ewing, the writer of the current All-New Venom series, and Terry Dodson unite for Venom #250, a giant-sized celebratory issue teased to kick off a major symbiote saga. Knull, the god of symbiotes, will seek revenge on Venom, who is currently bonded to none other than Mary Jane Watson.

Knull debuted in 2018’s Venom series and immediately became feared as one of Marvel’s most legendary supervillains, later headlining his own crossover event, King in Black. In 2024, the character appeared in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe as part of the third and final film in the Venom trilogy, with Venom and Eddie trying to stop Knull from escaping his celestial prison.. Now, he’s set to take the spotlight once more, beginning with Venom #250.
The synopsis for Venom #250 reveals the dangers Mary Jane Watson will find herself facing when the issue hits comic book shops on Oct. 1. “Mary Jane Watson is finally in the swing of things as the new Venom host, using their powers in all-new ways to be the hero the symbiote never knew it could be! But as she cleans up the streets of New York, she remains blissfully unaware of the strands of darkness leading off into the darkness of the void. Knull, the creator of all symbiotes, was killed by Eddie Brock. Nothing could bring him back… but Knull rules over nothing. Knull has returned, and word is racing across the stars to the one who took him down before to prepare to do it again. Will Venom be ready?”
The issue will also feature a story by Eddie Brock: Carnage writer Charles Soule and All-New Venom artist Carlos Gomez that takes place during Eddie Brock’s time as Venom. Marvel also announced that, following the issue, All-New Venom will remain Venom and will continue on with the legacy numbering as Venom #251.

This Spider-Man Story Finally Answers the Mystery of the MCU’s Earth-616
Marvel has just given fans the most succinct explanation for why the primary Marvel Universe is designated Earth-616, and it makes perfect sense.
Venom #250 writer Al Ewing teased Knull’s appeal as an epic villain, saying, “When Donny and Ryan brought Knull into being, they created the first new villain in a while with what I’d call ‘big villain juice.’ He’s visually arresting, you know what he wants in one sentence, you can’t talk him out of it, he’s powerful enough to hold down a crossover… and he was given the wonderful luxury of going away for a while.”
Ewing also teased how Knull’s time out of the spotlight sets him up for a memorable run beginning with Venom #250. “When a big bad is allowed to lay fallow and drift into memory, what’s remembered is all the things readers liked about them – and that’s when it’s time for a comeback,” he said. “The final ingredient in a good villain – they may be down, but they’re never out.”
Venom #250 goes on sale Oct. 1 from Marvel Comics.
