Halle Berry Rocks Old Hollywood Dress at Cannes Chopard Gala

While the 2025 Cannes Film Festival is a celebration of the movies and filmmakers around the world, it’s also fashion central for all the celebrities walking the star-studded red carpets. Just ask Halle Berry, one of the Cannes jury members this year, who has walked a series of red carpets in bold and showstopping looks all throughout the week.

While she’s wowed us in many of her looks this week, including the stunning sequinned Gucci dress she wore to the 2025 Kering Women In Motion Awards and a billowing high-low dress at the premiere of Mission: Impossible The Final Reckoning, Berry’s latest burgundy number might be our favorite.

While attending the 2025 Chopard Universe Dinner on May 19, the Oscar winner channeled Old Hollywood in a corseted strapless dress with an asymmetrical skirt that spiraled to one side. The dress was designed by Gaurav  Gupta, an Indian designer known for his sculptural pieces.

Berry then accessorized the look with glowy makeup, matching ruby earrings and burgundy pointed shoes. Her short locks had soft waves and were parted to one side.

A few days ago, at the jury Cannes press conference, Berry had seemingly referred to this exact dress. As it turns out, she had planned to wear the dress, which extends into a long train, to the first premiere of the festival, for Partir Un Jour (Leave One Day), on May 13. But, because of the festival’s new rules on red carpet attire, she chose to leave it for later.

“I had an amazing dress by Gupta that I cannot wear tonight because it’s too big of a train,” Berry said in the conference, per Variety. “I’m not going to break the rules.”

As a reminder, the new Cannes guidelines frowned upon “voluminous” looks. “Voluminous outfits, in particular those with a large train, that hinder the proper flow of traffic of guests and complicate seating in the theater are not permitted,” the guidelines said.

As a result, Berry kept the Gupta dress in her back pocket and wore it last night. For the Partir Un Jour premiere, she wore a striped black and white Jacquemus halter dress instead.

Alongside Berry in the Cannes jury are Succession star Jeremy Strong, All We Imagine as Light director Payal Kapadia, South Korean filmmaker Hong Sangsoo, Italian actor Alba Rohrwacher, French-Moroccan writer Leïla Slimani, Congolese documentarist Dieudo Hamadi and Mexican filmmaker Carlos Reygadas and, last but not least, actress Juliette Binoche, who will be serving as jury president.

With the 2025 Cannes only coming to an end a few days from now, on May 24, we can’t wait to see what else Berry has in store!
